One of my favorite nonprofits, Hola Cultura, put on their first big event entitled Tamalfest DC, a celebration of Latino food and culture, through the ubiquitous tamal.
As part of their planning committee, I learned a lot about the logistics and sheer work involved in event-planning. Remembering the first mention of Tamalfest in late 2014, it was incredible to see it grow, and I marveled at the ability of Hola Cultura’s co-founder Christine MacDonald to engage a crew of dedicated volunteers.
The efforts of Christine and the planning committee did not go unnoticed: Washington Post and Washington Hispanic did terrific previews of the event, followed by a great write-up on NBC. You can read the official wrap-up on Hola Cultura’s site here.
